Sport to build a future of peace and brotherhood

Assist for Peace is a project born from a group of people who wanted to share a message of peace and brotherhood with athletes, champions, and other supporters.
Assist for Peace was founded with the idea that sport can be a driving force for education in coexistence and respect, even in areas marked by ethnic, religious, and social tensions.

Activity

From Jerusalem to Bethlehem

In 2016, we inaugurated a multipurpose sports field within the walls of Jerusalem's Old City, in the Armenian Quarter. In 2017, the children of the Holy City were able to play under the watchful eye of an exceptional coach, Carlo Ancelotti. The coach, along with many other champions from numerous sports, contributed to the field's construction.

Thanks go to Novak Djokovic, Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Vincenzo Nibali, Giovanni Soldini, Javier Zanetti, Gianluigi Buffon, Federica Pellegrini, Yakhouba Diawara, Roberto Donadoni, Danilo Gallinari, Valentino Rossi, Muhammad Ali, Luca Toni, Simone Pianigiani and other personalities such as Antonello Venditti, Guido Barilla and Ennio Morricone.

In 2018, two months after Davide Astori's passing, the children of Jerusalem wore his jersey to the stone of the Deposition of Christ at the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. In agreement with the municipality of Bethlehem, a project was born to build a sports field in the Palestinian city dedicated to the footballer's memory. The project was funded by the Cagliari and Fiorentina football clubs.

On May 31, 2019, the field was inaugurated with a match between two representatives of the two teams, featuring, among others, Federico Chiesa and Davide Barella.

On November 30th, a representative team of Cagliari's youth teams will play the first Christmas Peace Cup on the pitch dedicated to Astori, alongside a representative team of local young footballers.

On this occasion, the twinning agreement between the cities of Bethlehem and Verbania was signed on the field.

Both sports fields are open to children of all ethnicities and religions.

A journalist asked German theologian Dorothee Solle:
ā€œHow would you explain to a child what happiness is?ā€
ā€œI wouldn’t explain it to him,ā€ he replied.
ā€œI would give him a ball to play with.ā€
